The developer behind the whites building who just built 80 condos. Is from the atlanta area. And more are following to invest in augutsta.

In downtown augusta. Such projects as the sluski Building, woolworth building, whites building, the old remodeled Gilbert Furniture Building, Green Building, and even the home of the departed Blue Horse Music Hall are undergoing significant improvements.

The downtown renovations have Mayor Deke Copenhaver beaming.

“These developments in Augusta’s central business district point to our growing reputation, both regionally and nationally,” said Copenhaver in a phone interview, adding that there are several developers in Atlanta who are keeping a watchful eye on Augusta as a promising place to invest.

Copenhaver said he feels the increased foot traffic resulting from the projects will provide the means by which more stable retailers, such as grocery stores and pharmacies, become available. He also noted that with the possibility of a baseball stadium moving into the neighborhood, the future looks even brighter.

“I am extremely excited. I keep telling people the best is yet to come.”

With several renovations currently underway, he’s looking prophetic.

Not to sound snobbish, but Atlanta developers have been eyeing Savannah for years upon years.... I'm assuming they've been looking at all the other GA cities for quite some time as well. They can't just now be "discovering" a place thats right up I-20, 2 1/2 hours away.

Yes, but Atlanta developers didn't get in the fray in Savannah until SCAD bought up a lot of downtown and started using and fixing buildings.

Ben Carter Properties did a huge mixed-use development called Columbus Park Crossing in Columbus. That development is still expanding. I know a lot of multifmaily Atlanta developers are doing new deals in Columbus right now as well.
