When was the last time you saw a Federal government employee fired? You trade a lot of the salary for some very good job security and very predictable working environment.

I'm just glad to hear about all the high paying IT jobs coming to the area. Augusta will get alot of attention across the united states. Because of this new facility and microsoft signing the deal with ft. gordon.

One, their community involvement is often limited. You don't see sport or music events sponsored by government organizations, or see them buy and revitalize buildings typically. Some government organizations/enterprises don't promote ownership or do as much business with the local community around them (some large corporations are like this too). Lastly, government enterprises don't encourage other companies to come and set up shop in cities the way other companies do. That's one reason Atlanta got so big.

The NSA is the most respected intelligence agency however. I think it will do Augusta well.
thanks good point.I should have thought of those reasons.

I wonder if the facility is going to be located closer to west augusta or on the southside. Hephzibah or Grovetown will benefit a great deal. Or the city of harlem because ft. gordon has tons of land down gordon hwy. A company from out of state has already move to jimmie dyess to be closer to the fort.

Good question I had never thought of that before. More than likely on the southside on near harlem. Most of the empty land

Wow this is amazing hearing about the project. Along with the new nuclear reactors going up in burke county southern richmond. And including SRS that's three places with thousands of jobs each.

Plenty of growth in the future around the metro area. Our population in the CSRA is over 1.5 million people.

Central Savannah River Area - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia says (2000 census) 477,000 people. 2007's estimate is 527,000. That's nowhere near 1.5 million which is 1.5% growth per year. That's not booming, but it's not bad.

Augusta's metro population(richmond, burke, aiken, edgefield, mcduffie, columbia) is over 527,000 by itself. So how could the CSRA population be less than the metro population. When the CSRA is like 14 or 16 counties. Wikipedia can be edited by anyone.

I think this is where you got your info from on wiki. Its says the metro population was 477,000 in 2000. Not the CSRA population

The Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) is a 13-county region[1] in the U.S. state of Georgia, and is also considered to include five counties[2] in South Carolina. The region is located on and named after the Savannah River, which separates the two states. The largest cities within the CSRA are Augusta, Georgia and Aiken, South Carolina.

According to the 2000 Census, the Augusta-Aiken metropolitan area had a population of 477,441, making it the 87th largest in the nation and second largest in the State of Georgia.
