A shout out to y'all who are avid skiers. What would be a "typical" drive time, door to door, to get from Augusta to the ski areas of, say, the stretch from Far Northern GA through Western NC?

What are the resorts like (mom and pop? middle of the road? whupteedo glitz?)?

How much do lift tickets cost?

Is there ever anything besides dense, icy snow (anything ever remotely resembling powder?)?

Much obliged.

The only ski resort in North Georgia is Sky Valley in the extreme northeast corner of Georgia. You are talking about a 4 hour drive from Augusta, because you have to take secondary highways, since there is no interstate that runs from Augusta to the part of Georgia. A better bet would be to go in the direction of Asheville. You can pick up I26 around Clinton, SC... you can get to Asheville is roughly 3 and half hours. NC is going to have the better skiing anyway. But West Virginia is going to be much better.. but that is a much longer drive.
The ski resorts I would recommend in NC are
Sugar Mountain
Ski Beech resort
Sapphire valley
cataloochee
Wolf Ridge
Appalachian Ski Mtn
asheville is going to be about 3.5 hours from Augusta but you will probably need to add an average of an hour to get to the various ski resorts. The North carolina forum can probably be of more help to you.

Wow, quite a few options. I appreciate the advice. I would imagine given that list of resorts you've given they run the gamut from mom and pop to fancy.

As for lodging I presume it's the usual range of various hotels, on site lodges and private rentals? Thanks!
