Joshua McKee and other volunteers pick up trash along Gordon Highway today. “I really didn’t mind,” the Evans resident said . “This is the area of town where I work and I drive along this road every day. Everyone who uses this road should want to keep it clean.”

Mr. McKee was among almost 300 volunteers who met at 6:30 a.m. to help clean nearly 12 miles of the highway.

“One of our goals is roadside beautification,” said Pat Hathaway, the president of the Augusta Council of Garden Clubs. “It’s exciting to see the community come together for such a great effort.” Organizers plan to do the clean-up twice a year.

This is after volunteer groups cleaned up the Augusta Canal. A group created a white water course at the canal. Another group of volunteers cut the grass at the state owned GA golf hall of fame. Which is not even open at this present time. The group will continue to cut the grass and trim the hedges for free.

They do great work in Augusta!!

How can I get the word out for volunteer help? My son's Eagle Scout Project is an environmental clean-up project in a specific Augusta area. Any ideas? Thanks so much!
