who cares about a gas station..... really? One of the reasons the Palmetto Parkway was built was for easy access to Ft Gordon. Ft Gordon is the reason Tobacco, Windsor Spring, Diamond Lakes and Hephzibah as whole is growing. Im just trying make logic of having one movie theatre in the whole city.

First of all we have 2 theaters in the area. Let's not forget about Evans 14. Next let's look
at numbers. The income of Columbia County is almost double of Richmond. Movies are disposable
income. The more money you make the more you will have left over after all the needed things
in life. Next Augusta is not big enough to support another large theater. The population count is just right for what we have. The theater industry has taken a hit during the recession and they are nit building new they're nit building new theaters like they used to. In fact they are just renovating what they have. There is very little financial incentive to build a theater right now in south Augusta. Yes the area is growing but until there is a shopping center with 12 plus national retailers it probably won't happen( unless Magic steps in).
And honestly Augusta is not that bad as far as traffic goes. The Regal cinema can be reached by almost anywhere in town in less than 20 minutes by car.

South Augusta is experiencing millions of dollars in investment.
$50 million American Tire, $2 million colony plaza, a large hotel, and Kelloggs expansion. Are under construction in South Augusta. There are several other construction projects. Along Deans Bridge, Peach Orchard, and Windsor Spring rd. Two large hotels just opened off Gordon hwy in South Augusta. One being Augusta's first ''green'' hotel.

Back to the OP.
Aiken has a theatre too. I think Hot Mike didn't include the Evans theater. Because he said ''large'' theater in Augusta. Aiken and Evans theaters are small in comparison. To the Regal 20 in West Augusta. The Augusta area has 2 mid-size and 1 large theater.

Half the people that go to the theatre arent even from that part of town. They coming from South Augusta, guy. So that income argument is weak.

Aiken 8 screens,Evans 14,regal 20. You can sorta
throw Aiken out because you have to believe they mainly draw from Aiken. The
Regal draws from all over so to say half the people are from south
Augusta is kind of hard to swallow. And yes income does matter. Because there may be investment in an area but if there's not a lot of people with that disposable
income you won't see large scale shopping or leisure activities in the area. The dollars are definitely west Augusta and moving west. Fortunately
over the past 2 years south Augusta has seen a resurgence
in building but it will be years before
south Augusta sees an explosion like was seen in west Augusta, Martinez and Evans. Take a look at grovetown and the new walmart. Back on topic I would love to
see south Augusta get a theater but until someone comes in and gets rid of some
of eyesores(regency mall) people will not invest.

West Augusta runs mainly along I-20 and everything eastward and south of that is South Augusta and East Augusta.

The Walmart shopping center " The Gateway'' in Grovetown. Is not really a big deal except for Grovetown residents. South Augusta has had a Walmart on Deans Bridge for decades.

The dividing line of South Augusta and West Augusta is Gordon hwy. Though between Jimmie Dyess and Harlem on Gordon hwy. I think is Southwest Augusta. Those kids go to ARC and not Glenn Hills which is closer. Gordon hwy to the airport is all South Augusta. West Augusta is from Gordon hwy to Martinez. West Augusta and Martinez. Split up riverwatch pkwy which turns into Old petersburg, davis rd, and bobby jones around the walmart on I-520. West Augusta is the closes to Martinez. Which turns into Evans after Martinez. Grovetown only touches West Augusta around Jimmie dyess/wrightsboro intersection.
