The city of Augusta has sold $30.55 million in bonds for projects in the sixth special-purpose sales tax package, with a 1.97 percent effective interest rate through Robert W. Baird & Co., according to Assistant Finance Director Tim Schroer.

The money was raised up front to pay back $10 million in debt generated in the Medical College of Georgia’s purchase of Gilbert Manor public housing project.

It will also pay for $10.5 million in airport projects, $6 million for the sheriff’s office’s new administration building, $2 million for design work on the Webster Detention Center and $5.9 million in engineering projects, Mr. Schroer said.

I hope they do choose to build the new sheriff office in Southgate or near. Ronnie Strength stated Southgate was one of the options. That would really bring back Southgate and that area of Gordon Hwy. It would also help pick up growth in the inner 520 parts of South Augusta.

What do you think about the 440 spaces and $10.5 million in construction at the airport?

What is the $10.5 million being spent on at the airport? It can't possibly cost that much to build a parking lot.

The parking lot construction is not included in the $10.5 million. The 440 space parking lot is already under construction. The $10.5 million worth of projects start this week.

I actually was being positive about it, but to be totally honest...Augusta Regional is finally catching up with the new century...Since they're putting that 440 space lot in front of the terminal, then they are actually losing 2 smaller lots, so I'm guessing around 1/2 of those 440 spaces will actually be new.

What are you talking about. I was agreeing with you. And Augusta regional is adding passengers and flights while other airports are losing passengers.

Actually there only getting rid of 150 spaces and keeping 630 spaces. While adding another 440 spaces to go with the current 630.

''The lot has 400 spots in long-term parking and 230 in short-term. The overflow lots have 150 spaces. Ms. Johnston said the new parking area will provide an extra 440 spaces, but will eliminate the overflow lots.''

I apologize, I misinterpreted what you had said, your 'It's called growth' comment did come across as condescending to me. But Augusta Regional is still playing 'catch up' when it comes to some of their airport services, many these improvements are much overdue and greatly needed.
