Five Guys Burgers and Fries is opening in Aiken in July. The restaurant will open in the former Shoney's building at 1909 Whiskey Road. The Aiken burger franchise is expected to open in mid-to-late July, said franchise owner Rodney Moss.

The franchise owners have franchise rights to open five restaurants in the Augusta-Aiken market. They opened their first location in March 2009 at 2805 Washington Road in West Augusta. The Mosses are also scouting for locations in Evans, South Augusta and Grovetown.

Einstein Bros. Bagels still has plans to open a restaurant in Aiken, said Roger Weiss, an attorney who represents the store's franchisees.

The franchise owners opened their first Einstein Bros. Bagels franchise in March 2009 at 2807 Washington Road in West Augusta. They plan to open three additional restaurants in the Augusta-Aiken market.

Five guys wants to open five locations in the metro. West Augusta and Aiken only leaves three more locations...

I understand Five guys looking at South Augusta and Evans. They're both a good distance away from their other locations. But I'm surprise they're looking at Grovetown over Martinez. I guess Martinez being between the West Augusta and future Evans location hurts it. While Grovetown is a city further away from their other locations...

I've been to the Five Guys on Washington Rd., the best burger I've ever had. They won't be coming to South Augusta. I can pretty much predict the locations. Bobby Jones, Augusta Exchange, and Evans. Now, I must admit that I wouldn't be surprised to see them on Wrightsboro Rd.

From the article: The Mosses are also scouting for locations in Evans, South Augusta and Grovetown.

If they're looking at sites in Grovetown. I'm sure they would look at sites in South Augusta. South Augusta demographics are similar to Grovetown. They both have a lower middle class population and then some richer areas. South Augusta has Southlake Estates, Diamond Lakes, Willis Foreman road, Goshen, and part of Brown road part not in the city of Hephzibah. Grovetown has the areas on Columbia road, Chamblin road, William Few pkwy, and near the Walmart off I-20.

i think the gateway (walmart off I-20) would be a great site for a five guys, as five guys has a well known reputation for a great burger and tends to draw a big crowd. maybe then some more businesses can pop up in the area. the one on washington is always crowded when i'm in there, so i feel any location close to I-20 from the grovetown to highway 25 exits would get some great business.

All I see is one three times. Downtown Augusta has a very high turnover rate as few places make it for the long haul.

Par4ham, Pinebridge, Disgustasucks, Kit624, Expatriado, etc...

I have wonderful news just for you lol!!!!!

Key report findings were that on-street occupancy on the Broad Street Corridor is 100 percent at peak times and averages 80 percent Monday through Saturday; off-street parking is 37 percent occupied at peak times and on average all-day parkers (employees, commuters) consumed as high as 40 percent of the on-street spaces.

Currently there are $204 million(article from Dec 13th 2009) in new projects under way in downtown Augusta(central business district only), and the TEE center and Hyatt Place Hotel are slated to begin in 2010. Our business growth has been significant, with a net gain of 70 new businesses for the past three years. Our growing residential population has increased significantly, and currently our downtown apartments are realizing a 96 percent occupancy rate.
