Coach wasn't doing so well nationally. Last year they announced plans to close 70 of its 350 stores after marketshare to Michael Kors.

Coach is closing 70 of its 350 North American stores. - Fortune

The rent at the mall is high and many of these stores aren't trendy as before. The mall management was responsible for attracting the first Apple, PF Changs, Pandora, Sephora, Teavana, H&M, Michael Kors, etc outside metro Atlanta.

No real big surprise about Coach. Too many other stores sell the goods in our market. Very good article on them in Fortune. They expanded way too quick and lost their "upscaleness". As far as the other stores, those are the trends that occur in the market. Trends only last so long and a number of stores open up to capitalize on them and then when the style isnt popular anymore they will close. Poor radio shack........................

Wilke said that two tenants, Zumiez and AT&T, are under contract to open in the mall within the first half of 2015.
Zumiez is a Seattle-based retailer that sells apparel, equipment and accessories for skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, motocross and other similar sporting activities.

Default Aiken Mall

Anyone know exactly when the Aiken Mall will close it's doors?

JC Penney's is gone, jewelery store in front of Penney's, Radio Shack, and in 2 weeks, Aeropostale.

Is Belks and/or Dillards closing anytime soon?

No. Belk and Dillard's are staples of Aiken. If anything, they will be what keeps the mall open longer than it would be otherwise. I've said before I could even see the Aiken Mall going the way of Regency where Montgomery Ward stayed open long after the rest of the mall shut down.

I haven't been inside the mall but at the at the chinese buffet in front about 2 weeks ago and from the looks of the parking lot, appeared to be doing okay. I know in the past I've seen the parking lot a lot more emptier. With that being said the recent closings had more to do with the performance of the chains as a whole than the mall itself.

Now if Dillards are Belk start to experience troubles....

Are you talking about the one *outside* the mall that isn't attached to it? Nothing out there has any trouble. It's everything IN the mall that is closing. A brand new steak and cheese place opened up inside the mall not that long ago, and even they don't stay open past 6 or 6:30 at the latest on any given weekday. It's really sad.
