Now thats interesting.
Probably means they will close the Bi-Lo eventually especially if it has as severe impact on them as I suspect it will.

The building, the massive 650,000-square-foot former Quad/Graphics printing plant and distribution facility in Evans, has been acquired by Evans Industrial Partners of Augusta LLC, an investment group affiliated with Augusta-based Sherman & Hemstreet Real Estate Co. The Columbia County property had been idle for nearly a year after the Wisconsin-based company began shutting down the commercial printing plant and distribution facility in late 2015 as part of a company-wide downsizing plan.

The sale to Evans Industrial Partners was announced Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed and public records on the transaction were not immediately available. Last year the 81-acre property was listed on the market at $9,750,000.

Evans Industrial Partners is headed by Bill Hock, president of Hock Development Co., and his son Charles, a vice president at Sherman & Hemstreet, which will be marketing the property at 4301 Evans to Locks Road to commercial and industrial tenants.

Robbie Bennett, executive director of the Columbia County Development Authority, said local ownership makes it easier for him to help find a major industrial tenant for the property, which was built in 1981 by W.F. Hall Printing Co. and employed as many as several hundred employees at various times under different owners.

A new 130 home subdivision is coming to Harlem....
Quote:
The potential neighborhood could bring up to 130 homes to the area, but some residents say they don't want to lose the small town feel.

"I want to see Harlem as a destination, not just a place to live. A place that people want to travel to short distances from Augusta or elsewhere to see and enjoy some peace and quiet and some unique shops" said Deborah Stickney.

In a December council meeting, many people expressed that the new homes might add traffic, noise, and too many people to the city. They were also concerned about the price of the development.

Harlem City Manager says that's why he called a special meeting. The meeting discussed zoning for the project as well as the impact on the community.

150? Joy, probably another keystone or some such subdivision of lower/middle income housing developments that cause alot of traffic like the CSRA doesnt have enough of those already.

Regarding the new gate, work will begin in 2018, it will be a roundabout and I believe Sprint Foods is just doing a rebuild at Barton Chapel/Gordon Highway location. Here's a rendering of the new gate...

This greenway will be a nice addition to Columbia County.
Quote:
That's why Columbia County wants one of its own and so do voters who approved plans for a 27 mile greenway back in November.

"They've had to deal for years with just an idea of a Greenway," said Andrew Strickland, Columbia County's Planning Services Director.

Andrew Strickland says right now, they're waiting on the designs for what the Euchee Creek Greenway will look like.

"Once we select the engineering firm to do the drawings for us, it'll take another 6 to 8 months to prepare those drawings," said Strickland.

After the designs are complete, they will put the $21 million dollar project out for bid which means construction isn't expected until at least a year from now.

"Now we're actually having to ask questions about how we get it done, you know, the actual fine grain details of getting it done," said Strickland.

While the plan will follow Euchee Creek, loops will trail off on William Few Parkway winding in and out of neighborhoods.

Thanks, a roundabout does make alot of sense as during a power outage it will still work just fine without the need for the county to dispatch officers to assist with traffic I just hope its not as tight as the one at Pumpkin Center near Harlem as semi-trucks there seem to always go over to far and end up going on the curb.

"I just think it's exciting, especially in that area to have a brand new school." said Richmond County Board of Education Member Helen Minchew.

Tuesday night board members gave constructions crews the go ahead to prepare the construction site while contractors finish the last phase of designing the school. It's a tight deadline, because Richmond County board of Education member Helen Minchew says they want the school open to students by the 2018 - 2019 school year.

"It is our number one project," said Minchew.

Number one project, because Sue Reynolds Elementary and Langford Middle School are at capacity and can't take any more students.

'We've had numerous classroom expansions over the past couple of years to accommodate all the growth, mainly from Fort Gordon and all the neighborhoods that have built up over the years," said Minchew.

There's more coming.

Signs just in front of the school tell drivers about the "new houses" being put up in the area.

"We see new neighborhoods coming up. We see neighborhoods that are expanding," said Minchew.

The new school will take in 800 students in the district 3 area, but the lines of district three might change.

One of the Metro Diner regional managers has been interviewing potential managing partners and chefs from Augusta at the business’ Atlanta-area location. A source said that once a decision is made, a near three-month training period will take place for the operating partner, who will receive a salary and percentage of profits.

The vacant Somewhere in Augusta space will be retrofitted to meet the standards of Metro Diner. Despite huge revenue possibilities during Masters Week, it will be at least summertime before the diner is open for business.

Earlier in January, Augusta Chronicle Business Editor Damon Cline spoke with the building’s owner, Bruce Freshley, a former executive who helped develop the Doris Diamonds concept.

“There is nothing else like it in Augusta,” Freshley said. “We turned down many deals before settling on this one. When Freshley spoke with The Augusta Chronicle, he couldn’t release the name of the new tenant, but he did say it was a restaurant company in the midst of a major national expansion. A check of locations on Metro Diner’s website, which states locations are coming soon or open in nine states, backs up Freshley’s statement.

As of press time, Buzz on Biz had not heard back from Somewhere in Augusta owner Cindy Fiske. In late December, Fiske said they were in negotiations to take over a vacant restaurant building in Columbia County. They are expected to reopen Somewhere in Augusta under the same name in February.
