Apartment rezoning decision postponed | The Augusta Chronicle
Just another example of how bias the local media is. This easily one of the fastest growing areas in the CSRA, but you'll never hear about it. It's the same area with a planned 56 acre office park, 13 acre shopping center, a larger shopping center, four existing subdivisions expanding(Willhaven, Haynes Station, McCoys Creek, Elderberry), 100 acre subdivision at 2111 Powell rd/2701 Gordon Hwy, RCBOE new school, etc..

Even the growth about the two new residential developments were hidden in the article related to denying apartments.

This project should fill up quickly, especially once the harbor expansion in Savannah is complete...

The facility is set to be the largest industrial warehouse in Columbia County at 524,700 square feet.

"We've been working on this concept for about three years, and the CSRA is short on needed warehouse space to support the manufacturing growth in the area,” said Danny Lowry, a partner in Hoback Investments LLC.

That's why Hoback Investments is putting more than $23 million into what they're calling a state of the art facility.

"We've got facilities in Richmond County and they're good as well, but Columbia County has been very good to work with,” said Lowry.

"Having a warehouse of this size puts us in a new category from an industrial standpoint, from a warehouse standpoint. It opens up many doors and hopefully it will open up new product development opportunities across the board,” said Bennett.

The facility is set to bring about 65 jobs to its location between two John Deere Factories - a key factor when deciding where it will be housed.

"It's a cross-dock facility. It's designed to house multiple tenants if need be,” said Lowry.

"Ultimately this is based on strategic location. It's an ideal location and an ideal piece of property that gives them a great opportunity to grow,” added Bennett.

That growth potential sits on approximately 43 acres, and Columbia County leaders said this is just the beginning.

"When you look at the Greater Augusta region, we are in a renaissance period across the board, all sides of the river and Columbia County is proud to be a part of that."

Columbia County is still preparing their 20-year long range plan. They project CoCo will increase by 73,000 over the next 20 years. I have a feeling they may be low balling the growth...

iscussions are taking place about how to develop the land as the county develops a growth plan for the next 20 years.

"William Few corridor is going to have to be addressed long term," said Commissioner Mack Taylor.

With the county's population expected to grow by 73,000 people over the next 20 years, roads and traffic are two of the biggest concerns -- and the William Few corridor is at the top of the list.

"We hear from citizens quite frequently about William Few. There are some improvements coming in."

These improvements include a traffic circle at the intersection of William Few and Chamblin Road -- this is expected to come by the end of this year. There is also a traffic light coming to the Baker Place intersection.

"I think long term we're going to have to see a widening of that road."

The land is only being cleared because the contractors for the extension of Riverwatch Parkway needed massive amounts of dirt to build up the road bed to the bridge they're building over the railroad tracks near Old Evans Rd. They struck a deal with the Mullins family to clear that property if they'd let them have the dirt for their project since it would cost exceedingly more for them to haul it in from elsewhere. I don't think the Mullins have realistic plans just yet of anything going there.

Columbia County Commission to examine new housing district | The Augusta Chronicle

The new district is being discussed for a proposed 55-acre single-family subdivision fronting the Savannah River on Furys Ferry and Hardy McManus roads.

Under the new district, side setbacks have been doubled to 10 feet, at least 20 percent of the development must be preserved as open space, townhomes are required to have garages and all streets must interconnect.
