Based on this Forbes migration pattern map, a lot of people think this is the place to be right now.

Wow! Not only that, look at the other interactive maps - especially LA and Detroit... massive hemorrhaging.

I found the actual Forbes Interactive Map where you can click on individual counties in all the states and get more information.

That's a really cool map - the interactive one in the article. Try clicking on Chicago or Detroit and it's almost all red (outward migration). It sure does confirm like what it feels for Austin though...it feels to me like people are moving here in droves. I also find it interesting that Dallas has as much red (outward) as black (inward). I would have thought Dallas was a much bigger draw for people from large cities. Houston has a fairly large inward migration, especially from the northeast. Interesting stuff.

Wow - that's a fascinating map! It certainly does look like everyone is flocking to Austin, especially New Yorkers and Californians.

One thing that this map doesn't include is foreign migration. I've heard that when you account for foreign migration, the population flow into and out of Los Angeles is about even. Anyone have any statistics to back me up?

Interesting commentary and discussion from the Economist regarding this issue:

I'd bet that's an accurate statement. It will be a very interesting read when the 2010 census data becomes available.

Wow.

I think we should make sure they all know we have spiders, scorpions, tarantulas, fire ants, and snakes. Maybe that will slow it down a bit.
