My husband then asked if it would be more difficult to sell the car in the future if it has a California title, and the agent said it wouldn't make any difference. Since the agent seemed to be pushing pretty hard for my husband to surrender the California title, and since my husband could see no obvious advantage to doing so, he opted to keep the California title. Any thoughts on this?
Good question. We moved from CA last May and we just went ahead and changed our title to TX. I really couldn't see any advantage to not changing the title to TX so we went with it.

A few months ago I paid off my car and got my IN title in the mail. Well, I lost it of course. After tearing the house apart, I went ahead and got a new one from Indiana (through the mail) which was a pain.

After getting my new IN Title, I went in to transfer it to TX. The lady at DMV was real nice and asked why I was doing that. I didn't need to. I told her it was a pain to get it replaced and I didn't want to go through that again. It cost me $33.00 and that's well worth it for peace of mind.
