If you go before 12 noon on Sunday, you'll have the added benefit that the stores can't sell alcohol at that time. The "crazies" usually don't plan in advance, so they won't be out on the river until after the stores start selling the booze.

Thank you all for the feedback. I think we will wait to go "toobing" on the rivers and just go to Schlitterbahn for now. Thanks again.

Thanks
This seems incredibly ill advised. There are too many accidents that can happen with children that young. Take them to the river to play and splash along the edges while you watch them closely, yes, but not tubing. My wife is a water safety instructor and has taught lots of children to swim. She says those ages are far to young to take into moving water. There may even be child endangerment laws against it.

Wow, thanks CptRn on your views regarding my lack of parenting skills. Did you not see my post right above yours?

Comal for sure! I live very close to the Guadalupe and used to work summers for a State Park on the river ... not the cleanest .... of course the park didn't make that very public.

More than one in five fatal drowning victims are children 14 and younger. For every child who dies from drowning, another four received emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.

In 2007, of all children 1 to 4 years old who died from an unintentional injury, almost 30% died from drowning. Although drowning rates have slowly declined, fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1 to 14 years.

Just went tubing on the Comal river with hubby and 6 year old! Had a blast! Went at 10:00 in the morning and went right to the tubes & jumped in the river. Texas Tubes is right on the river, just park & jump in. It was pretty mellow with about 3 little rapids areas. My 6 year old loved it and I felt that it was completely safe enough for her. I would not hesitate to take a 4 or 5 year old. The water was surprisingly clear, just a little bit of sticks & debris, but that is to be expected. Water was so nice in this heat!
