Question: Is the housing in Austin rising fast or slow? Or are they not rising at all? Just wondering because here in Cali it seems like they are rising very fast and one has to wonder where the end is. I think we're hitting it now...but just wondering what the trends are in the Austin area.

I think it depends on what part of Austin. City vs. Suburbs. East vs. West - etc.

In central Austin (mopac to 35, 183 to the river) and the lake prices are moving fast and furious...no sign of a cool down. The 'bargains' are gone, and prices just seem to keep going sky high....

The market is moving very quickly in most places in Austin. Alot are seeing double digit appreciation.

That's interesting...I'm hoping my mom might come down for a visit when we move and stay! Depends on how the market goes...she'll be retiring next year.

This is correct. Overall, we are seeing about 10% appreciation, with closer in areas doing better than that, further out areas where there is a lot of new construction seeing less appreciation.

Why do you ask? If you're thinking of moving here, how does it affect your decision?

I'm not sure what OP was asking. She said in California "they are rising very fast". I'm betting s/he's not talking prices, but rather DOM or inventory.

It doesn't affect my decision, but it might affect my mom's if she decided to move out when she retires next year.
