This poll is for Austin metro area residents only:

Did you attend the University of Texas at Austin?

There is a strong devotion to the university of course, but beyond enjoying sports, the economic benefit, and the affinity for burnt sienna, does the loyalty run deep because of all the Longhorns that have remained to make Austin their home?

I mostly grew up in Austin, but when it came time to apply for colleges, I purposefully chose to go somewhere as far away from Austin as possible in the United States. I didn't want to be just another number at UT and be mostly surrounded by other Texans (UT may be a great school, but it has one of the least geographically-diverse undergrad populations I've ever seen). Plus, most of the high-caliber small liberal arts schools that interested me were in New England. I did move back to Austin after college, though.

It looks like the Longhorns are catching up!

I am a UT product, but not from the Austin campus. I am curious about this, because during the UT/Rice game, the alumni came out of the woodwork, and in some cases took over blocks in our neighborhood. I didn't know how widespread it was.

Out of curiosity, how are you planning on interpreting the numbers. For instance, take the current totals (7 yes, 13 no). What does that mean (other than the obvious literal values)? If you take both extremes (let's say 500 more no votes come in or 500 more yes votes) what would that mean? Can the demographics of CD be truly taken as a representative sample such that the poll results can be extrapolated? Like I said, just wondering.

I really just wanted to get a little perspective on the CD posters, really. They all get to know who went to UT as well, which I'm sure they don't mind.

I did notice there were a couple of *holes that didn't read the "for Austin metro area residents only" part of the question, though.

Can't believe you'd call a fellow longhorn 'a *hole.'

I am a UT graduate and now live in the area, but spent most of my working life out of state, so I don't know if that works in your pole, as I think you are trying to get at UT grads who never left. I have always been proud to be a UT grad, but I never considered loyalty to UT in making decisions about where I lived. And honestly, I have never cared for football. (Oop - perhaps I shouldn't have said that!)

Hook em!
I am from the better UT (Tennessee) but married an Aggie....so I have no loyalty to the Texas UT from any angle.
