Any reason for Austin in particular?

...speaking of 'WORK' - do you have a job lined up? You will need one before moving, because your chances of finding one here may be slim to none. I don't know much about vouchers, but public assistance is pretty scarce here as well - this is a very 'red' state in general.

Other than that, welcome to Texas.

Seems like there was a similar thread to this a short while ago. As I recall the advice was don't give up your housing and other support that you currently have thinking you can move to Texas and get the same. It is much harder to qualify for housing and other subsidies in Texas and a newly relocated family may not qualify for anything until they have lived here for a few years.

The link below might be what you're looking for. They appear to be called "Housing Choice Vouchers" here in Austin.

Housing Authority of the City of Austin: Housing Choice Voucher Program (http://www.hacanet.org/housing_choice_vouchers/ - broken link)

"Currently, the Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist is closed and the program is not accepting applications. The waitlist is not expected to open for several years."
