I've been here for 3 years and I've NEVER been happier. The only thing I don't like is the heat, but I'm getting used to it and it's a small price to pay.

Lets see...I have moved here 5 months ago from San Diego and have hated every second of Austin. First it is very country here. Good ole boys everywhere.
Second The weather is miserable and hot with hail storms and tornados...My car was totaled from a hail storm three payments from being paid off.
Third Slow and terrible drivers everywhere. The gas pedal makes your car move faster my friends.
Fourth Traffic is horrendous due to the roads that are considered highways. My company is NW Austin so I have no choice but to live in this area or deal with gridlock traffic.
Fifth Utility bills are sky high due to temperatures and running AC all day.
Sixth cops are everywhere trying to get anyone over the speed limit and give you no breaks when pulled over. Was pulled over going 4 mph over the speed limit. Never in my life have I had this happen.
Seventh The food is horrible here at the restaurants and just as expensive as any major city.
This is just some of my experiences in my five months here, I will be moving back to San Diego in the near future. I hate this city and I lived in 5 different states before Austin TX, this has been my least favorite city.

Grew up in Houston... Moved to Portland as soon as I graduated college. Moved back to Austin when I had kids. I hate it here due to heat, humidity, everything being spread out.

What keeps me here?
1) Cost of living vs Portland
2) Income level vs Portland
3) Family is close
4) Kids can play outside most of the year (they don't care that it is hot & humid)
5) No heroin junkies on the stream or homeless guy taking a dump in my front yard (like I had in Portland weekly)
6) No tweeker 20 yr olds bumming money.... we have actual homeless people.... not runaway teens

I feel your pain too. Be careful with the shady business people.

HAHA I guess some folks enjoy creating gridlock. It's supposed to stop people from moving here.

It doesn't seem to be working. C'mon guys, we need to start driving slower. And we should change the secret handshake just in case.
