Does anyone know of a place that serves Chicken and Dumplings? I have known of several over the years I have been here and they have all closed.

Thanks for that list! I grew up in South Carolina and MOM could make some SERIOUS chicken and dumplings in the pressure cooker . DW doesn't care for it/them, so I'm on my own when looking for them . Yum-O!

STILL looking for a good Tex-Mex chicken SOUP(not tortilla)! Got us a list for THAT?

First thing that popped into my head was Arkie's. It's their special on Wednesdays (I think). But you need to get there early because a) the place is small and gets real crowded real quick and b) when they run out, they run out.

A place in Bee Cave used to have them. Can't recall the name of the place but they were around in the 90's. We quit going there long before we moved away, so no idea if the restaurant is still there or not. It was on the same side of the road as the Backyard.

Is there something in the water here that prevents restaurants from serving chicken and dumplings more than once a week?

I thought so too, but I didn't see it on the menu. Maybe it is one of the weekly specials, like King Ranch casserole on Fridays, etc. It's a regular item on Hyde Park's menu.

I never thought of chicken and dumplings as Texan in the same way as fried chicken or chicken fried steak. I just don't think there is that much of a demand for the dish. Even the less regionally distinct dishes of pot roast and meat loaf are likely to have a bigger following in TX than chicken and dumplings.
