Living in a condo downtown is always an option as well. If you are near the 2nd street district (AMLI, 360, Austonian) or the Whole Foods area (Spring) you could have a walkable family-oriented experience.

Our office is just down the street from the Whole Foods, so that could be an option for us. I'll check out Travis Heights. Like I mentioned, we are going to rent at first and won't buy until we know the area, so we aren't concerned about schools at this point since our daughter is just an infant. Thanks for all the help!

I really like Barton Hills... good elementary school. Walk or bike distance to Zilker Park.

Default Found a House!

Well, this thread is pretty dead but I wanted to thank everyone for their advice. I accepted the job transfer and we found a house in SW Austin - Legend Oaks, part of West Oak Hills. So far it seems perfect for our needs... family friendly yet realtively close to downtown. Thanks again!
