You have a lot of work to do to prepare for a move to Austin.

It is a great town for people your age. But most of your questions can't be answered in just a few sentences.

Transferring into UT is not simple. You will need good grades, and you should think about becoming a Texas resident before you try. Your writing is not very good so I'm worried you don't have the grades and SATs for UT.

We do not have fall like Virginia does. The temperature can be fantastic, but we do not have the obvious change in tree colors you see every year. We have more change than many think, but it is nothing like Virginia. (I lived in NOVA for many years).

There's a ton to do here in Austin. I'll try and give you my take on the following:

1. What is there to do in Austin? Is there never a boring Night or is it more like weekend Fun.

If you like being outside, there's lots of opportunity for hiking or running through out the greater Austin area. In town, you have the trails around Lake Lady Bird for one. Look up City of Austin's parks website. You mentioned music and there's tons of that. There are tons of restaurants with live music but you can even listen to live music at barber shops or grocery stores. Photograpy: if you like that, then really it would be hard to find a town that *doesn't* cater to the photographer, you just have to keep your eyes open. There's plenty of opportunity to shoot people, architecture and nature. Dell bought a number of very important photographic works and they're going to be prepped and housed at the Harry Ransom Center. They already have the first photograph available for viewing.

2. Wheres the best place to live? Im 18 so I guess that speaks for its self.

This depends on your budget and where you want to live and work. Maybe others can point you to apartment/home rental sites that can help you.

3. What should I except when I get there?

You can expect lots of smiles, really friendly people and rush hour traffic during rush hours. There's some public transportation but it's not as developed as some big cities (not too surprising, really). I've never lived in VA so I can't tell you what to expect in terms of living costs. The really nice thing I had heard about Austin is that people don't care what you look like. You can wear jeans to a nice restaurant or dress up at Mickey D's and no one would look at you twice. It's something that I've been really happy to learn is very true.

4. Most important...Does fall come? I know that it comes but im from Virginia and fall is my favorite Season!!!!!

If fall means leaves changing color, you might be a tiny bit disappointed because it's not as impressive here as what I believe VA gets to see. The weather will usually change in October and get cooler. If you do want to see color, I've heard that Lost Maples state park (1 hr-ish from Austin) has nice fall color the first half of November.

If Fall to you is football, well that seems to have started already. It seems that the color change when it comes to that is really obvious! It's not hard to find UT fall colors at the local grocery stores, on store window posters, on parents, on babies, on coolers, etc. etc. etc. Austin loves UT football.

Austin is a great place to be if you are single, 18-35, and interested in getting drunk every night on 6th street. Great place for singles as well!
Aside from that, you may be able to find other things, but they aren't too interesting and few and FAR between. Realize that Dallas is only 3 SHORT hours away.

2. Wheres the best place to live? Im 18 so I guess that speaks for its self.
If you can afford it, live as close to downtown as you can. There are some progressive, liberal people down there who actually drive cars. The further you get from central austin, the scarier it becomes! Yes, im serious!

3. What should I except when I get there?
Expect to be treated BADLY if you aren't wearing orange and supporting the all mighty LONGHORNS. Not a professional team, a COLLEGE TEAM, much like a HIGH SCHOOL TEAM!! Otherwise, non arrogant people in Austin are few and far between.

4. Most important...Does fall come? I know that it comes but im from Virginia and fall is my favorite Season!!!!!
Not the place to be if you like fall. There are few if any trees that change color. Summer pretty much becomes winter overnight!

Any Other Information would be a plus

Well if you are 18, just stay near downtown, and you'll be fine. There should be a decent amount of places that you can rent near UT.

I guess our resident Austin hater is back.

I refuse to wear anything burnt orange or with a horn on it. My car even has a sticker for a different university. And nothing bad has happened to me!

The downtown area might be fun for people 21+. I'll only say that it was a bummer to go to college when I was under 21 and not be able to actually go to most of the clubs or live music venues.

A lot of students lived in West Campus, which is ...well, just west of Campus and the Drag area, if they didn't live in a dorm. The entire campus area has really built up, though ... there's a lot of apartments and condos right on Guadalupe (the Drag) now that seem to extend all the way to North Central Austin. My parents had to sign my lease agreement when I was a student, as I wasn't working full time. I'm honestly not sure how easy it is to get a place on your own at 18, as I never attempted it.

Having roommates makes Austin living a lot more fun and far less expensive. I was always lucky in that I got great roommates.

As far as U.T., there are two prongs of admission. One is getting into the university itself. Then you have to be admitted into the school of your choice, unless you go Plan II (liberal arts). For example, when I went to U.T., I attended the School of Music, which entailed an audition in front of faculty members. That's how you know how you're placed, either in the performance, pedagogy or theory/history/composition sequence. Other schools within the college of fine arts may require that you submit a portfolio of your artwork, photography, etc.

Each school will have different criteria for admission, but you don't need to decide right now if you don't know what your major is going to be. Most of the first year is spent taking basic courses, anyway.
