I can't find the previous thread about this, so I'm starting a new one.

I seem to have found a fix to secure the lid of the City of Austin trash can which has been working for about 3 weeks now. See photo below.

I drilled a small hole in the lid of the trash can so I could hook one end of a bungie cord into it, and hook the other end of the bungie card around the metal bar in front. I had to shorten the bungie cord a few inches to keep adequate tension on the cord. I have not had a single racoon get in the trash can since I installed this.

The bungie cord is easy to remove on trash day.

Plus, the hole makes your garbage can easy to discern from the neighbor's ones... which can sometimes be a problem after a storm, or a particularly sloppy day by the trash service...
