I love to visit other cities, but to live... eh, no. Austin pretty much rules in that category, from everything I've experienced. At least for me.

Perhaps if my interests changed and I wanted to live in a "big city"... I could see going for something like NYC or SF Bay area. Of course, assuming money was no object. Wouldn't want to live in either of those places on a mid-level salary. But they are fun to visit.

Santa Barbara.

I'd go smaller than Austin...don't think I'd go much bigger.

We could move any time we wanted to San Jose CA but we prefer to stay in Austin and my spouse works in SJ about 50% of the time. I can't imagine raising kids in San Jose.

Never anything smaller than Austin, Chicago is great to visit but never another Chicago winter (NEVER!), ditto Minneapolis/ St. Paul, no to the east coast, I could see New Orleans at some point when we are child-free. I was shocked at how at home I felt in LA last time we were there but definitely without children and who knows if CA will even be standing then.

Atlanta, no. St. Louis, maybe. Memphis, maybe. Louisville KY is surprisingly nice. I could see Raleigh. In actuality, Singapore is a more likely move for us than any place in the US. I would not complain about Singapore, steam heat and all!

Well to me it's some. I lived in Leadville, CO for 5 years which is 10,430 ft above sea level - they get a lot of snow. Shoveling 6 inches of snow off your car EVERY morning gets real old real fast. Snow on 4th of July is neat though. But I have to say summers there are awesome.

Maybe San Francisco. Or Portland, OR.

I seem to like the west coast over the east coast. But I'd need a huge pay increase to live comfortably on the west coast like I do now in Austin. Nothing in the middle half of the country really appeals to me other than this town.

Maybe North Shore, Oahu would work. Learn to surf, start some kind of a small business.

For Brubaker - "centers of culture" is something I am happy to experience every few years. I"ll travel to get it when I feel a need. But the negatives of the places that have it would bother me every other day.

So Austin continues to be a great place for me and my family after 25 years.

I hope to be an empty nester back in NYC. Once NYC gets in your soul, you will always yearn for it.
