In honor of Austin Restaurant Week, I thought I'd throw out to all my CD peeps - what are your top 5 Austin (and surrounding area) restaurants?

Any cuisine, any price range. Please also say why you like them - this thread is totally selfish - I'm looking for new foodventures.

Thanks!

1. Morelia Grill in RR (and soon to be at Avery Ranch)...delish Mexican food, $3 margaritas all the time every day

2. Threadgills - a choice of anything you could possibly want to eat and always good

3. Thai Cuisine on Parmer at Amherst - just good Thai food!

4. Bone Daddy's - yeah, I know it seems weird but they have great food - best grilled chicken salad and stuffed jalapenos EVER!

5. Chedd's Gourmet Grilled Cheese - always good for a quick, delicious bite!

Interesting that 'we' are getting three new Mex restaurants in the area at the same time...AND all three are as slow as molasses getting opened up!

1431 next to IHOP and So. Bell in the ACE shopping center are the other two locations.

I hope the new Morelia is as good as some reviews I've read about the original.

OP, I guess the fifty-eleven other threads on area restaurants might suggest that folks are a little talked out on food recs for now .

They change a bit, but current favorite 5:

1) Garrido's

2) Malaga Tapas Bar

3) Lambert's

4) Torchy's

5) Madam Mam's

I'd probably have Estancia Churascarria, Sullivan's, Austin Land and Cattle, and Fonda San Miguel up there... but realistically, I can't afford to go to them very often.

So my favorites are a realistic combo of reasonable price, enjoyable atmosphere/location, and great food.

In no particular order...

Maggiano's was a recent, pleasant experience.

Pappadeaux's is great, although we haven't been there since the BP Gulf disaster.

Mikado for sushi.

The Grove Wine Bar & Kitchen for lite, but tasty outdoor/indoor dining.

P.F. Chang's -- I've been to four locations nationwide and Austin's is by far the best.

The Cheesecake Factory is always a homerun in my book.

Azul Tequila - as good as Fonda San Miguel at a third the price (not paying for ambiance, just good food)
Mama Roux - by the folks that created Gumbo's, then sold it and it went downhill - now the original folks have a new place
Louisiana Longhorn - fun, affordable Louisiana cooking
Monument Cafe - home cooking with Kobe beef - need I say more?
Chez Nous - a longtime favorite, the place to go for special occasions
City Market BBQ in Luling (well, to me that's the "Austin area")

It will actually be at Lakeline/Neena and Parmer, on the East side of Parmer in the same strip center as the Taco Bell and Baskin Robbins. They should be opening in a month or so. I just said Avery Ranch because that's how the manager at Morelia Grill refers to it.

I'm just glad they're coming closer! We love their restaurant!!
