It's the "old school" way of underlining.

Well back in my day, your fingers had to type in 2 inches of snow, uphill on our kerosine powered computers. Of course my family was so poor we couldn't afford the full character set on our candle backlit terminals, so we had to forgo the underlined characters and make do with what we had.

Mr Solis, it's important that your underlining occurs before and after the first/last characters respectively, _as_so_. Only underlining between characters makes them identifiers vs underlined text. One also need not introduce additional spaces (as well it is generally ill advised to do so).

Mexican organized crime and their white associates are dug into Austin like a tick. When if ever they get seriously cracked down on and start fighting with each other over the scraps to quote the film, "There will be blood". That is no laughing matter.

Speaking as someone who just moved from out of state, the poster does have a point. There has been a massive media blast to outsiders to move to Austin. IMO, there is a reason for everything. There are lies that are being spreaded about Austin, such as it's a heaven and EVERYONE has a job and it is easy to get a job (They claim to have not been effected by the recession). This is one of the reasons Austin has experienced such a fast population growth in the last 5-10 years. IMO, austin is a beautiful city, but it is far from perfect. A lot of crime DOES get swept under the rug to keep the Austin image up.
