I love the scenery at the Salt Lick but the bbq not so much. It wasn't bad but I didn't think it was great either.

I have to agree!!

I finally made my way to the one even in Round Rock and the food just SUX!!

The peach cobbler crust was made from some type of cornbread or something. It was bad!!

I will not even go back to The Salt Lick (including the one down South)

absolutely, there is no contest. You can get salt lick sauce at HEB and so can eat it all the time.

For me bbq brisket is about melt in your mouth. Everything at rudys is dry except the extra moist brisket. But the extra moist (it needs to be shiny and falling apart) with salt lick bbq sauce is by far the best ever.

The smokey J's on the corner of 620 and 2222 also has an awesome chopped beef sandwich.

Love Salt Lick. Can't stand Rudy's. If I wanted truck stop/gas station BBQ...wait aren't there gas stations at most Rudy's? Well there ya go!

For the record, my original review refers only to the original location. I make no claims about the replica in Round Rock or the knockoff at the airport.

The airport location isn't a knockoff, the meat there is cooked in Driftwood and delivered there daily. It's the same stuff.

And they have a secret special - the stuffed baked potato which is one of my favorite meals in all of austin. For 6.99 you get a huge potato stuffed with brisket. Have them put extra sauce on it and get a few extra of the plastic containers of sauce to pour on as you get to the bottom.

I eat this every time I am at the airport. The people that work there say it is mostly people at the airport that get it because hardly anyone knows it exists.

I just mean it looks like a cheesy knockoff. They have a phony grill hood with cheap plastic sausages hanging where the real ones are in the photo in the first post. You can't tell me it's as good at the airport as going out to Driftwood. I could go to a five-star restaurant, but you can't tell me that re-heating the doggie bag in the oven is as good the next day.

You can have it, doesn't hold a candle to barbecue in Memphis.
