Hi all,

My family and I just moved from Houston and are currently renting a house that backs to 1826. I've heard rumors, including from a real estate agent, that there are plans to convert 1826 into a 4 lane highway, complete with flyover ramps, etc. I was told it has actually already funded.

I'm curious to find something concrete about these plans, and google has not given me anything. Does anyone know anything about this, or where I might find more info?

Many thanks!

They might as well just call this entire stretch of road "45S" and toll it now, because that's what it's going to be used for. If they don't, it's going to create even more confusion for people to drive within 2 miles of 35, get off, then get back on 1826 to drive the remaining 2 miles. THL, just think - Austin will have it's first legitimate "Loop" when this is completed: Mopac/45N/130/45SE/1826/45SW. No one said it would be pretty, though.

FWIW, I'm really hoping someone will tell me I'm wrong!

I can't understand why they'd do it....there doesn't seem to be a need for it, or enough room for it.

But it's a ROAD! We MUST have more ROADS! And a LOOP!

Grrrrrrr.

I'm a Texan, born and bred, and I understand about roads, but what a lot of folks don't seem to realize is that building more roads won't solve the problems that they think it will, it'll just put them off for another couple of years until everybody moves yet further out without thinking about it (because why should they have to think about where they live, Daddy will just build more roads to make it easy for them if they complain enough).

Sooner or later the population problem here will solve itself because we'll have paved over everything that made it appealing to live here in the first place. We should be profoundly ashamed of ourselves.

Feeling VERY cranky today.

Last I heard (and it was a while back) was that 1826 would be 4 lanes from 290 south to Slaughter only, although I could see it down to 45).

I couldn't find anything on the Austin or Travis websites. I think FM 1826 was part of the 2008 Hays County bond election:
