Hi,

I will arrive in Austin on Sunday, 12/12/10, and need recommendations on finding a good apartment locator service. I have spoken with one or two locators but have not signed any agreements since they have not responded back to me in a timely manner.

I am looking for a locator who is responsive, professional, and can guide me in the right direction of finding an apartment or home that has most of the things on my wish list since I only want to stay in a hotel for 2-3 days.

Any help would greatly be apprecitated!

I would strongly recommend you totally skip the apartment locator services, and just do it the old fashioned way - drive around in the apartment-heavy areas and go look yourself. I tried an apartment locator when I first moved to Austin - it was a complete waste of time. They only took me to about 3 locations in an ENTIRE DAY - my husband and I could have seen half the city in that same amount of time. They are only going to take you to the places where they have "deals," so you're really better off on your own.

You can even start while you're out of town by simply Googling Apartments Austin - you'll find a ton of websites that will get you off to a good start, or will at least help you identify good apartment-saturated areas of town.

You may also find better luck on this forum if you publish you wishlist as well as price range and geographic limitations - there have already been a ton of threads on good apartment communities, so someone on this forum can probably give you advice once you narrrow it down for us.

Good luck!

Well, if you like working that hard of course you can do that. I checked with my sister who lives in Austin and she recommended Habitat Hunters - Austin Apartment Locators |Austin Homes For Sale | Austin Commercial Real Estate - they apparently have been doing this a long time and don't charge for their services because they get paid by the apartment owners. There's nothing that says you can't do both - use a locator and investigate on your own.

Austin is city that has a lot of different areas - so you'd be better off making a list of the type of area you'd like - downtown, suburb, close to the University - what it is that is bringing you to Austin is a great place to start.

Good luck with your search. I've loved my visits to Austin.
