I feel kinda bad for all the Texans that will have to put up with the exodus of Californians coming to places like Austin. "What do you mean there aren't 15 different malls in a 20 mile radius?!" and "Why do you people speak so funny, you should learn to speak like us superior California people!" and "This crappy place would be so much better if Ahnuld was governor!"

It's not so bad. The people who want to stay in Cali do. The ones who are coming here seem to want to get away from all that. There are exceptions though. Overall they aren't worse than what you get in the DFW suburbs, even before Texas became hip in the eyes of disgruntled Californians.

It's cool, I moved to the Raleigh, NC area a couple years ago, decided the same thing and went back to Houston. No sweat.

I agree with everything you said, but find this a decent place to live for now.

I like to visit Austin but would not like to live there ither.
As for "those middle age hippie..." some of them are the very ones looking out for the interest of Texas citizens, and I am not talking about elected officals by any means.
In any case I hope you find a city that suits your needs and good luck.

I think most people in California with this kind of attitude are staying in California. It's the ones who want a better kind of life with less malls and less craziness that are leaving. Yeah, I'm one of them.

That's called wishful thinking, but until I get data in my archive to prove my thesis ... or until your old neighbors move in next door ... we'll put the point in your column.

Austin has a lot too...they're just not called malls...La Frontera, SouthPark, whatevers outside of Lakeline mall. It's depressing how cookiecutter Austin is becoming.
