My husband and I might be moving to Austin if he passes the interview this week. We currently live in a beautiful 3/3 townhouse style apartment that has no pet limit and no monthly pet fee for stray/adopted cats. We're looking for one in Austin that has the same pet policy but it can be a 2/1.

We actually have 8 cats (long story short, we had 4 but when we adopted the one female stray and brought her in to be fixed we found out she was pregnant. She had 6 kittens and we only managed to give 2 away). I know it's hard to find a place that accepts that many but I know they're out there. I need to find a place and I refuse to leave any of my family behind or give any of them away...

Seriously 8 cats is not a lot if you live in the country on a few acres, but a 2 bedroom place is really pushing the limits of crazy. My only suggestion is to look for duplexes or rental houses on craigslist. Some private party rentals could care less about pets.

That is a big risk for a landlord to accept. You might want to post on the CL housing wanted section. I wouldn't expect much luck because there has been someone posting with a similar sized menagerie for several months now.

I know it's a risk for landlords to take but all my cats are declawed, fixed, and have all their shots. The last house we lived in thought they were all angels. The only damage they did was chew on one of the blinds when a few of them were kittens and still learning not to do so but we replaced the blinds for our landlord even though it could have come out of the pet deposit. And because we have so many I keep the house very clean as I'm afraid they'll eat something they're not supposed to and I clean their boxes every day.

I figured a house would probably be better which is what I'm actually going to go for. But as for space, when we leave we put them in our bedroom so they can't do anything while we're gone (such as feel they can chew on wires cause we're not there). And even when we let them back out, half the time they just stay in our room because they're comfortable in there (especially since we have a 7ft cat tree for them haha). So space isn't really my concern.

But thanks someguyatx. I've decided to stick with houses/duplexes. I'm working with a realtor to find a place that accepts cats on the outskirts of Austin.
