A big storm predicted for much of the US. Will we get hit with tornadoes as reported on some stations?

Doubt it.

However, we will get a large thunderstorm I predict. Anytime you go from near 80 degrees to 20 in a day, there will be some weather. We need the rain as the pollen counts are high. However, I could do without the cold.

Where did you hear about tornadoes? I haven't heard that anywhere. Perhaps you heard an exuberant and bored weatherman.

Rain, cold, windy, and colder.

I think the severe weather is supposed to be to our east - probably closer to Houston.

I had never heard of a tornado in winter, but this list of tornados and tornado outbreaks indicate that they are less common but they do occur. There is nothing in the current weather warning indicating they are probable with this front.

Storm Prediction Center Jan 31, 2011 2000 UTC Day 1 Convective Outlook

Earlier I had found a link that showed a line of threat of tornadoes for later. I didn't link it. Now, when I try to find it I cannot. That's the internet for ya. Now looking for it I find the link above and it showed a very low threat. I should just stop looking for storm information! Sorry.

Or just get yourself a NOAA weather alert radio.
It will go off and alert you of impending bad weather.

I believe you. What I should have said is that the severe weather warning I got from the Weather Channel did not mention tornados. That doesn't mean that a chance of them wasn't being predicted somewhere else.
