Does anybody know how to judge the quality of big cantilevered patio umbrellas? I can't find any info on consumer reports and the prices are so variable - goes from $100 to $2000. We have gales regularly blowing through our backyard, so we need something a strong wind can't break - do wind vents help?? Thanks!

You need to tie them closed. IPatio umbrellas arent that big, but short of several hundred pounds (which you wouldnt be able to carry around) nothing is going to hold down an open patio umbrella when it is really windy.

You could get an awning with a wind sensor that rolls it up at a certain speed..

Thanks but awnings won't work with the way our house is built.

There's a $499 cantilevered in the store at Costco but the Costco website only shows a $999 model. They appear to be the same thing, but the one in the store isn't advertised as being on sale and nobody in the store knew anything about cantilevered umbrellas, so I can't figure out if the $499 is a good deal or defective somehow.
