Not just a plan? Teachers getting pink slips this week in AISD? Wake me up from this nightmare.

No, I'm not a teacher, just an AISD parent with kids in public schools.

Yes, they really are doing it. In Hutto it will be abt. 2 teachers per grade and I imagine it will be the same or similar for Austin ISD. Austin has it worse because they are closing more schools and also have to hand out pink slips to teachers in schools not closing.

Yep. They aren't opening an elementary school that was supposed to open in Cedar Park next year. About 100,000 employees will lose their jobs. About half librarians and support staff too.

It is occurring all over the State. The State budget is in a serious situation and they have decided to cut funding to schools. The State provides 50% of school budgets. Instead of cutting government perks, benefits, and all of the other handouts to Senators and Representatives (as well as Governors) they have decided to attack schools.

Of course the schools need to rethink their own cuts and get back to the basics of education. That means cutting the spots programs, fancy football stadiums, etc., first before destroying educational programs. But Texans have to have their "Friday Night Lights" so that will never happen!

This is a pretty common occurrence, in one form or another. At a state agency where I used to work, they are slated to cut 250 jobs, but over half of those are already 'empty', so they eliminate the vacancies and it is a job reduction. Similar effect as to transferring a lost job into a vacancy.

People--MUCH of this problem with school budget money could have been prevented if Rick Perry had not stolen the money two years ago meant to go SOLELY to Texas schools and used it to fill holes in his past budget--the one he was bragging about in his campaign--because he did not have to enforce such harsh measures to make it balance--
without that money Texas would have been going through the same situation it faces now to lesser extent but we would have had an HONEST insight to our budget process

Tx legislature allowed him to use the Fed money from Dept of Education/Obama money (as some like to color it) and avoid making some drastic cuts when ratifying the budget the state has currently...and Perry is always bragging about NOT taking money from the Fed--yeah--except when he needs it and can get away with doing it and not being called on it...
thanks media---

Well let's see, slick rick won because most Texans love him! He is everything that Texas is and will ever be. He is the reason that Texas is the most made fun of state in the nation. Accept it. Perry is king is these parts and the rest of the country knows it too!
