I'm moving to Austin in a few weeks and would appreciate some recommendations on where to look for housing...

I'm 23 and female, so I'm looking for a relatively safe neighborhood that isn't too expensive (under $800/month?). Preferably somewhere with an active art scene. I'm working close to Lake Travis (north of the river), and a commute under half an hour (if that's possible) would be great.

Any recommendations? Thanks!!

You might want to look in the South Lamar/Barton Skyway part of town or Far West/Northwest Hills or possibly even SoCo (South Congress). There are 1 bedroom apartments within your price range in all areas. SoCo and South Lamar/Barton Skyway would be closer to work, but all would be within your commute target.
