Hello everyone!

I'm hoping to get some help here. My family and I are moving to Austin TX in June of this year. My husband is getting out of the Navy and we just found out that he was hired to work at Samsung in Austin, TX. We are very excited!
However, we have both never been to the area and have no idea were to look for places to live. I was hoping someone can give us some imput on the surrounding areas. I would prefer to live outside of the city but still close enough for my husband to not have a long commute. I guess suburban living....
We will be renting at first with a budget of $2,000-2,500 a month range. I am a preschool teacher who runs my business out of our home. We also have two children and would love for them to go to a good school. So maybe name some good school districts?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Austin Bound

Considering Samsung is on the NE side of town, I would look at the following cities/ISDs: Round Rock, Pflugerville, Leander, Georgetown.

They are all nearby, family friendly and middle class.

Good luck, and welcome to Texas!

Maybe Manor, too, if you don't want to live in town...and I second jobert's welcome!

The Round Rock/Pflugerville areas are the best & closest bets for that price range.

Manor schools are not quite up to par, and avoid NE Austin.

I assume we are talking about Samsung at 12100 Samsung Blvd,
Austin, TX 78754, just off East Parmer Lane.

Jobert mentioned Leander above. I assume he also mean to include Cedar Park, which is closer then Leander.

You can also find some very nice areas in NW & North Central Austin that are closer to Samsung then Round Rock, Georgetown, Leander or Cedar Park.

Just to let you know, the areas directly around Samsung, don't have what you are looking for. I second the areas of Round Rock and Pflugerville, and even Cedar Park wouldn't be that bad of a commute straight down Parmer Lane. NW Austin would be another consideration - not quite suburban but a very nice area and good schools.

The local MLS website has most of the home rentals listed and would be a great resource to give you an idea of what's available in your price range in those areas. You should be able to get a pretty nice place for that price. Austin Real Estate | AustinHomeSearch | Austin Realtors | Austin TX Real Estate

If you prefer suburban living, then I'd recommend Round Rock or Georgetown. Though both were towns in their own right from the mid-1800's, long before Austin grew out to engulf Round Rock and Georgetown still is, they're more likely to give you what you say you're looking for than Northwest or North Central Austin, and still a reasonable commute to Samsung.
