I might be moving to Austin for Law school, and need to find a cheap apartment near E Dean Keeton St and San Jacinto Blvd/I-35. I am looking for a studio apartment because I imagine most my time in my first year will be spent at the school. The cheaper the better, unless it is full of college frat stars that have loud speakers. If anyone has suggestions I would really appreciate it.

Also, if there is not much around, then how is the bus/public transportation?

Try an apartment locator. Give them your parameters (price, location, amenities, etc.) and you shouldn't have much difficulty locating something. Studios are quite common in that area. It may be a question of supply. Quite a few students live in that area. You'll be very near campus and a few coffee houses, so if you're inclined to study your Civ Pro there, you can.

Luckily for you, you will be in the best part of Austin with respect to public transportation. On the whole, public transit in Austin is horrible, but the student transit is exceptional, frequent, and luckily for you, free. If you're able to locate an apartment in your desired neighborhood you should have no problem getting anywhere by bus (shuttle or regular).

Enjoy your law school experience.
