I don't know if this question was addressed, but when I move to Austin and start my job, naturally I will have a healthcare and dental plan. What are some good hospitals for adult and pediatric care?

There is a brand new Dell Children's Hospital. There are a few good hospitals downtown, Austin Heart, and a new hospital opening in RR.

We mainly use the Seton Healthcare network. We have a lot of experience with the Dell Children's Hospital and affilated doctors & specialists. We have been very pleased so far!

Austin Regional Clinic and Austin Diagnostic Center are the two main Primary care givers for adults, and children. (That I know of. Of course, there are other doctors in private practice, etc). We use Austin Regional Clinic for primary well child care.

Austin Diagnostic is great! They have one at Far West Blvd with the nicest doctors and nurses for children. My kids doctor name is Kimberly Albert and I think she is just awesome. She makes you feel at ease, she's nice to the kids. She takes the time to answer your questions. She always has a good attitude and extremely friendly. I have switched insurances and now I have to find someone else and I hate it!

thanks for all of your replies to my question about hospitals. I forgot to include dentists. Also, someone addressed heathcare plans. I guess it all depends on the employer. I have applied for jobs with Travis County, the State of Texas and with the colleges and universities. Does Austin have Delta Dental? What are some of the better health care plans.

thanks,
swsrock

Our only experience with dental/health plans here, have been Humana and MetLife (Dental). They have both worked fine for us!

How about St. David's Medical Center? Anyone have any experiences with that facility? They seem to have very high-level care.

Default salaries in Austin

I understand that there are no state taxes in Texas. I have applied for jobs with Travis County, the State of Texas, as well as with the colleges and universities. I applied for jobs paying at least 38,000 annually and I am looking to purchase a home in Austin. My price range for a home is between $135,000 and $160,000. I plan to declare at least three deductions (including my grandson, of whom I am legal guardian). How does salaries look after taxes?

I can't stress the importance of finding a good hospital. I recently had a very very bad experience at one (which is one of the main reasons why I'm moving... I never want to go to that hospital again... or even be near it). This was a very clean-looking hospital in a somewhat well-to-do area. I will never enter a hospital again unless I absolutely have to.

Unfortunately, most states are not required by law to post their infection rate, which I think is absolutely insane. I just read something that said Texas required the reporting of SOME hospital infections, so that's pretty awesome. Better than California, anyway.

You can look up ratings of hospitals on this site:
The Leapfrog Group

I can't stress enough the importance to questioning the hell out of your doctor pre-surgery in regards to their infection rates as well as the hospital's. I wish I had.

This website is really great to read if you do have to go to a hospital:
