Hey Guys,

I have to move some stuff : couple couches, bed, side table and coffee table from New Jersey to Austin.

Do you recommend any particular moving company? Please DM me. I inquired with some companies but their quote are quite high ~$1800. Part of the reason is they charge based on minimum weight of 2000 lbs. And I think my stuff won't weigh more than 600-700 lbs.

Either rent a uHaul truck and drive the stuff out yourself, or sell the furniture and buy new stuff when you get here.

I looked rates for UHaul and Penske. They are atrocious. Just renting a cargo van is ~$1600. And the minimum is 7 days. Plus add one-way flight, gas, 2 nights hotel accomodation. I think it would easy be around $2500

ABF is awesome!
They price you per linear foot. And if you take less room than quoted they give you money back.

+1 for ABF. You pack it, but it is really cheap. Moved some stuff from Nebraska to Austin - no issues/problems.

Have to agree about ABF. A friend just used them to move from PA to GA and said it was the best move she ever had!

This would be the best course of action. Much less hassle.

Whatever you do, don't use E&J Movers. I just moved my whole life from NYC to Austin, and I can't tell you what a nightmare it was.
