My co-workers and I are feeling nostalgic. We've discussed many of our past Austin memories like the "McFrugals" and "Weiner's" stores (both formally located in the shopping center at IH35 & William Cannon.) But we're having trouble remembering the store that used to be in the same building as the Chuck-E-Cheese (formally known as Show Biz Pizza) on Ben White & 1st St. Would anyone happen to know what it was?
Also, share your Austin memory. Remember when South Park Meadows was actually a meadow?

Thanks!

OK, I'm not a native, but I've been here awhile.

I thought there was one of the original Ross stores there next to Chuck E Cheese - does that sound right? I loved Weiners!

Some of my best memories of my early Austin years were going to concerts at the Frank Erwin Center, Aquafest, and being able to do things like go to the 4th of July fireworks show on Auditorium Shores without having to plan logistics hours in advance. I also loved the Blues on the Green when it was in the Arboretum.

You're probably right!

I just thought of another one.. Remember when Blazer Lazer Tag on Ben White used to be a theater?

I've only been here since 2000, but I do remember when Southpark Meadows was just a meadow. I saw Dave Matthews Band play there back in the late 90s.

I remember going to Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie at South Park Meadows in the early 90s... good times.

I'm not a native Austinite, or even Texan... but I've been here about 22 years now, and perhaps the things I'm most nostalgic about are:

1. Forest Ridge mountain bike trail, and the area around it before so many homes and apartment complexes were there.
2. Barton Springs Road, when there were many more trees and an additional trailer park.
3. Steamboat, Liberty Lunch and the Back Room
4. Waterloo Brewing Company
5. That whole little strip of 24th street just west of Guadalupe, where you had Inner Sanctum Records, Mad Dog & Beans, Les Amis Cafe, Pipes Plus, etc.
6. The ability to get from any point A to any point B (yes, even across the river) in the city in 15 mins or less.

Of course, I know things like that can't be preserved forever -- and if you try, they just end up losing what makes them special. So I'm just glad I was there to experience them, and equally glad about all the great new stuff that we have now.

I remember when Capitol Plaza was a farm and Northcross Mall/Anderson Lane was a ranch. Also remember dove hunting on the ranch where Crockett High School is.

OP, there was a K-Mart next to Chuck E Cheese on Ben White.

I remember when Mopac and 2222 was a road and a railroad (no highway), and it was WAY out in the boonies halfway to the lake. Also, there was a place WAY out in the country just past 183 at Lamar - nothing built out there at all, it seemed - that had good hamburgers and truly wonderful chocolate malts.

Les Amis. Miss Les Amis.
