That's what I do, but don't be a jerk and kill or maim somebody while you're speeding excessively. We have too many of those kind.

Keep it friendly here, folks. I've seen bad-driving threads get personal all too often. If you aim your insults at others in the thread, you'll find yourself getting pulled over for going over a different kind of limit here at City-Data.

I agreed with you that because there are people out there who think the speed limit doesn't exist in the left lane, this is the thing to do from a practical standpoint - let them go by and then refrain from waving when you drive past them sitting by the side of the road with the nice peace officer or when you pull up right beside them at the next light where they've gotten SO much faster than you have.

I disagreed with you that the person driving right at the speed limit in the left lane is the "big fail" - it's the speeder who's trying to push traffic to speed so that they can "go really really really fast" who is the cause of the problem.

That's pretty basic logic, with the speed limit itself being the determining factor as to what the "big fail" is.

As someone who infrequently drives the stretch of 620 from Lakeline to Anderson Mill, I'll chime in. When we were looking for a house around River Place, Courtyard, and areas above and below 2222/620, each time I got on 620, I got a feeling of dread and depression...I DID NOT want 620 to be a daily drive for us. It is a sad mishmash of strip centers, auto repair/inspection/parts stores, ugly terrain and lousy traffic lights. It ain't no scenic highway, that's for sure! (Actually, there ARE some nice vistas that haven't yet been destroyed, especially as you approach the dam. I'm speaking mainly of 620 north of 2222, the stretch we drove a few times while house-hunting.)

Now that THAT'S off my chest, we made the drive from Lakeline to 71 last Saturday ~ 4:30PM. What a fire drill! The lights are ill-timed(no surprise) but at least they have a bit of distance between them. You would have thought 90% of the drivers had never been in the area AND had no idea where they were going. Folks slowing to 20mph to make a left turn and then FINALLY pulling into the left turn lane, others changing lanes a half-dozen times in a mile with no apparent purpose, some riding with a turn signal on for hundreds of yards--perhaps thinking they would turn SOMEtime! It felt like North Lamar, only with bursts of speed up to 60mph or so.

Maybe it's something in the 'hill country' air! It wasn't JUST the slow drivers, it was mayhem in general! On the other hand, the drive BACK after sunset was quite nice, even through the vast wasteland of concrete around Lakeline and Toll 45. I guess all the crazies found their destinations and stayed once the darkness fell.

This guy has a really snotty and aggressive attitude in his posts here, which I'm sure isn't against the TOS, but hopefully calling people "jerk" and "jerkwater", which he's done in a couple of his most recent posts, is.

when cars behind you want to get by, driving the speed limit in the left lane is total douchebaggery...

i'm sure this is how the majority of road rage occurs...

if u want to drive in the left lane at the speed limit...do it when no one is around...but why would be the point of that eh?

just don't do it...

u may be right coachrick...the problem seems have gotten worse the past year or so... maybe its in the drinking water?...

Anyone who drives faster then the speed limit on 620 is a complete idiot. The Lakeway cops love to issue speeding tickets, they make up a substantial part of the City income. There is absolutely no reason any sane person would drive faster then the speed limit on 620, its too dangerous with all the wall to wall strip malls and businesses. I have no sympathy for someone who wants to drive faster.
