I always considered working on roofs in Austin to be one of the worst jobs that exist in America. I did my own roof recently, but I did it before August. I have no idea how that work gets done in the summer.

The west side of Austin has topography like that, continuing into the hill country. I wouldn't call it the norm, but it's not really the exception either. There is a good amount of that hilly topography to the west, NW, and SW.

You can see the topography of the west side by doing a google image search for "Lake Austin" or "Lake Travis". It's mostly hilly with lots of trees (not too tall though), some limestone cliffs (also not too tall). Might also google "Barton Creek Greenbelt" images, that's a nice place and it's right near the center of the city.

Of course, there is a lot of Austin that is completely flat too.

I lived in Ausitn for 12 years and recently move to Honolulu. What I miss the most about Austin is, of course, my friends. Austin is certainly a nice place to live. Good luck on your moving!
Do you like Austin or Honolulu more? I love the beach and use to live in Kailua on Oahu but wonder if the parks and social scene in Austin makes up for no beach? Also wondering how cold Austin gets because i hate the cold. I just like to be where theres high energy and girls to date, both things I struggled to find in Hawaii.

The Barton Creek Greenbelt, Barton Springs Pool, and Highland Lakes kind of act like a beach here. But it's not Hawaii obviously! There is plenty of energy and girls to date, the social life is a (the?) strong point of Austin I think. Austin gets cold from time to time but in general the winters are not bad. The worst thing is that the weather is somewhat unpredictable based on cold fronts blowing in and out. There are a lot of nice days throughout the year but it's difficult to say exactly when they will be. This upcoming week looks solid...

I have to admit that I was not expecting to see the scenery I saw in Austin when I moved here and saw it for the first time.

You missed the half-decade when it was entirely burnt orange/brown...starting in 2008 when we got here.

Admittedly that's mostly what I expected to see before I moved here heh.

Some say that the last few years here has brought more rain than average. Maybe the developers here have also somehow sought to alter the weather here
