I am planning a move from California to Austin and I was wondering what good moving companies are out there? What should I be looking for? We have 2 cars that I'd rather ship over rather than drive one myself, since we have 2 little kids...

There have been a number of threads on this topic. You might want to do a search to see what others have done. I could tell you what we did, but we don't have small children and probably had totally different needs. (We drove.)

We used NorthStar moving company. They are based in southern california.

It was recommended to us by two of my former colleagues who moved from Bay Area to Austin.

Overall we were happy with their service. All our furniture and boxes arrived in good condition. Though they arrived 4-5 days late. Initially they said we will get it in 3-4 days and actually it came around 10 days, which I guess in standard with almost all moving companies.

We just moved to Austin from N IL and we had a great experience with Graebel. I do recall maybe seeing some mixed reviews from the offices in CA but we had a fantastic experience with them. Granted, we didn't have to pay them as it was a company sponsored move, but they were very respectful, good communication, nothing got broken or damaged and they even were able to get our things here a day earlier than originally promised. I was sooo thankful we had them through the whole situation. Never had an easier moving experience.
