That was a good article. But from the way he describes some of the students I kept forgetting he was talking about Austin and pictured him in NYC...

I thought it would be good read for all the folks thinking about moving to Austin to teach. No one is safe apparently.

Wow, what an article. Yes, anyone trying to come to Austin to teach should read it.

Thanks for posting this - it's a thought-provoking read. I'm an educator too, and I just hope we can come to our senses and realize that sacrificing our kids' education is not going to make our state, our country, or our democracy stronger.

Just remember at the next school board election who decided to cut hundreds of teachers instead of downsizing the still way over-bloated administration postions downtown & in the schools.

Also don't forget to credit the signature achievement of Governor Ann Richards' administration, the "Robin Hood Plan", which confiscates $120,000,000 each year from AISD and sends it elsewhere.

I feel his pain- my husband was laid off while I was pregnant a few years back. We had several years of no raises during the worst of the recession. We didn't write an article looking for sympathy or a bail out. We looked for new jobs. Taxpayers are tired of scrambling for their own jobs AND for funding a bloated government. I will continue to vote down every future bond package. AISD will have to find a way to cut their budget, be it cutting adminstration, classes, teachers, or asking parents to pay more. The taxpayers are taxed out.

AISD has been told since 2007 to consolidate and close schools.
They ignored that while the money was flowing. But now the money isn't so free flowing.
