I think someone would like Jimmy Johns if they love mayo. I have eaten there only once - short on sandwich fillings, long on mayo.

Some pretty good suggestions, but I'm having some trouble thinking of additional fast pick up type places that aren't national chains (and are good). Jimmy John's, Schlotzky's, and Which Wich are all national chains. Rudy's BBQ technically isn't a national chain, but they already have locations in NM, OK, and CO so maybe they are now. Spicy Pickle as mentioned is pretty good too, but another National chain.

I think Thunderbird is fine, but it's a bit overrated in my opinion. I actually prefer a national chain sandwich over it. P'Terry's is pretty good as mentioned and Taco Deli is one of the best breakfast tacos around in my opinion (yes, better than the trendy Don Juan at Juan in a Million).

I think one point is that these places start to become National chains for a reason, because they're pretty good at what they do. I'll always like Rudy's no matter how big they get as long as they continue to produce a quality product.

What if it is a national chain but based or started in Austin such as Schlotzky's?

Default The Real Stuff....

If you want goooooood tacos, burritos and enchiladas, go to the Mexican restaurants on E Riverside like Arandinas and El Taquito for starters. Not only are they the real thing but are also less than half the price of the imitation tacos on the west side.

There's actually a few good places on the west side for fajitas, burritos, tacos, etc... Some up north too. Just curious as to exactly how many places on the west side you visited before painting them with the same "imitation" brush.

El Chilito's, original on Manor Road east of I-35, now with several spin-offs around town.

Try the cochinita pibil... not your usual usual. And authentic to the taste I acquired in Mexico.

As someone mentioned above, check out the food trucks/trailers. There are over a thousand of them - all over town. All of them are fast and many of them are delicious. No need to ever eat at a national chain again!
