Just returned from South Padre Island. There was hardly any seaweed at all, the water and sand was clearer than any beach north of S. Carolina coast. The FL Panhandle and South Florida beaches are leagues above S. Padre, but they are leagues above anything else in the continental US for that matter.

My experience at Port Aransas last year (June 2013) was fabulous. I was totally jazzed that we could drive on the beach. It was wide and clean. The water was turbid as mentioned previously but we didn't have seaweed or jellyfish en mass. It reminded me of north FL east coast except fewer shells. I grew up in Florida nearer the east coast beaches so its fine for me. No, it certainly is not Pensacola/Destin etc but as someone said, those are hard to beat in the continental US.

We are in a South Padre Island beachfront condo right now. The beach is really clean, with little seaweed to be scraped off in the mornings. The water is clear but a chilly 74.8 degrees.

Bay fishing for trout was pretty good for several family members.

I just got back from Port Aransas. I was surprised that there was so much seaweed on the beach and that it stank so bad. Looking online though I see that huge amounts of sargasso are washing up on beaches from Florida to Belize.

Other than that, I had a great time.

We are on the West End of Galveston, and almost no sea weed. Lots of seaweed both north and south of us, go figure. Almost calm water with little surf, but it is perfect for the littler kids. Mosquitoes are out of control on the walk to the beach, but none once you are there.....
