We want a place that is liberal like I said, open minded, a good diverse mix of people. Obviously family oriented since we have two little ones and a lot of outdoor activity.

Is this Austin??
For the 10thousandth time, Austin is NOT liberal!!! Liberal compared to the rest of deep red Texas, but far from Liberal. The only progressive areas are around the University area, east Austin and areas south of Town Lake. Even so, Austin has pretty much sold its soul to the almighty dollar.
why does everyone seem to think that Austin is so liberal anyway?

And while it may not be in the Bible Belt as Charlotte is, it's pretty Christian-y outside of central Austin.

chrissys74, I tend to take forum posters' opinions with a grain of salt, unless I can find a way to verify. My advice is to visit Austin (and San Antonio) for yourselves and then make a judgment.

Austin is somewhat liberal around UT and downtown areas. The further you get out, the more conservative it gets. Once you are in the suburbs, its as conservative as any other part of Texas. The multi media marketing campaigns would have you believe that Austin is a liberal metro area which couldn't be further from the truth. Metro Austin is MOSTLY conservative with some liberal areas in the central part.

Want liberal? Try central Dallas. Better yet, Boulder, Colorado.
