I've been living in downtown with roommates since I moved to Austin 3 years ago, and now I'm considering trying a completely different arrangement -- by myself and outside of downtown to afford rent.

I work from home 100% of the time (computer tech support over the phone) and only have a motorcycle for transportation.

My taste is modern finishes, whether it be new construction or converted warehouse to lofts. The only thing I'm absolutely sure of is that I want my floorplan to be all one room in the form of a studio/efficiency.

When picking a place to live in Austin, I know the general idea is to live on the side of the river you work to avoid traffic, but since I have no commute, I don't really have a focal point!

Hobbies include going downtown to the clubs (6th and Congress is the center of my bar hopping circle), and Barton Springs on the weekends. The way I feel about living downtown is that if I'm not close enough to walk to the night life, I'd instead rather live completely out of downtown so that I can take advantage of the lower rent.

Considerable properties I've found so far are the Villages at the Domain and Gables West (eventhough it's downtown) -- and that's it! Is this not a popular type unit, or am I just not looking in the right places? ^_^

15 minutes from downtown is the farthest out I'd like to be

Thanks for any input!
