A comparable situation exists just north of UT Campus, in the are near Pease Park, and I don't think they have any sort of parking restrictions. They might have added some, I don't know, but I always felt a bad for the people in that neighborhood, not because they couldn't park in the streets themselves, but because the streets became so congested during school hours, and especially so during football games.

North University has resident parking, which means that vistors and tradesmen can actually park near your house. Without it, it would be all UT students during the school year.

Edit: And never forget that the South Congress businesses fought against the light rail plan, opposition that was likely decisive in the election.

Yup! They nearly had kittens over the idea that tracks could run down the center of the (very wide) street. And then there have been businesses who built parking garages and would have built bigger one except for neighborhood opposition.

sigh.
