That's good news. Game developement is highly technical and even though only 1/2 of those 300 jobs are permanent it's still a good deal for Austin.

EA = Electronic Arts primary office is located in Redwood Shores, CA.

I know a good deal about EA as I worked w/ one of the other close developers at one time.

All I am going to say is this:

EA will not hire no where near 300 jobs for locals. All this logically is an relocation from Redwood Shores, CA folks coming here.
Please don't think once that the jobs "if there are any" that are going to be posted is for anyone here looking for a job. This is another way to get the CA folks here to Austin.

I'm a hiring manager for EA based in Austin. We are hiring many positions for developers, DBAs, project managers etc.

EA Sports folks are getting reloed from Tiburon studios outside Orlando and Vancouver, not Redwood Shores. Many will be transfers and temp QA I'm sure, but many won't want to move and they will be replaced by RFT in Austin. Plenty of jobs will be created.

This is good for Austin to have more Game Development in Austin. As someone in that industry this is very good for us here. It will create jobs at EA but also create jobs for supporting companies here too.

hopefully we can get Austin back to becoming a hub again for our industry. Zynga recently opened a studio here as well.
