Looks like things are going to get tougher for a while on the job front as the State budget cuts kick in.

Quote:
Austin-area job growth flat, unemployment rate up as Legislature's cuts take affect

Austin-area job growth essentially flatlined in June and the region's unemployment rate increased to 7.6 percent, up from 6.8 percent in May, as the Legislature's spending cuts began to affect the local economy.

"Given what happened in the Legislature, Austin is going to take a disproportionate hit because we're heavy on the public sector side," said Jon Hockenyos, president of TXP , an economic consulting firm. "You've lost 2,000 government jobs, and more are likely to come."

Imagine that deep austerity measures during an economic crisis deepen the crisis, who could have foreseen that.. Don't worry though once people start getting less services they'll start having second thoughts about blanket comments about smaller government.

That's impossible. Nothing bad ever happens in this part of the world. Just ask the city of Austin, and they'll be the first to tell you that.

Well, let Rick Perry print trillions right out of thin air like they're doing in DC...that'll fix it all.
