Hmm...I am in the car a maximum of 30 minutes total each day, so I couldn't really care much less about Austin radio. I think the country stations are pretty good (if you listen to country, obviously).

I've had satellite radio for 8 years now, they've been saying that for years and look at the numbers.... what, 1% of market share? That sirius/xm stock certainly shows a company that is steamrolling the competition.

I finally went to cancel a couple of months back (long story/explanation) and the customer service rep said "what would it take to keep you around?" I said $2/month. Rep says "how about 6 months for $15?"

Bastards called my bluff... I stammered around and just said, well - okay! I pull that trick with AT&T uverse every 6 months, same with electric companies, etc... NEVER, NEVER crossed my mind to do it with satellite. I've been kicking myself in the butt since I realized I could play the same game for all of these years.

Between internet radio options, satellite radio, and various other forms of entertainment on your smartphone, terrestrial radio will be gone in the next 20 years, no question about it.

Cant conceive why anyone would still listen to terrestrial radio unless they were unaware of the internet or something.

I'd love it if the NPR station, instead of playing horrible music, had actual local news content.

KUT is pretty good.
I really wish our rock stations weren't dominated by hipster indie music and the same classic rock songs.

The last time I listened to Terrestrial radio I was still living in Kansas City. From what I have heard, nearly all stations in most markets are owned by a handful of big corporations. The music is pretty much the same 20-30 song playlist in every market.

Sirius/XM!! You'll never go back......
I tried Satellite and disliked it. I'd rather listen to stations over the internet.

when I first moved here I thought the same thing. where is the 24 hr jazz station?! there's no good radio here?!? omg!!

...But then I started listening to KUT. Actually, I've discovered a whole boatload of good music there, a lot of it from Horizontes, the friday afternoon show.

We had a jazz station in Austin a few years ago, but like many good things that come to Austin, it didn't last. I've been waiting in vain for another one to come around.

We used to have a jazz supperclub - Reed's. It was one of my favorite places. It didn't last.

Whooaa, I'm agreeing with you!! This feels weird...

But yeah, it's time to get on the internet radio/iTunes/satellite wagon. The ubiquitous smartphone can do wonders these days. I enjoy KGSR, KUT and KVET occasionally, but 'terrestrial radio' is backup to my backup's backup. For me it goes iTunes on smartphone --> Pandora/Spotify on smartphone --> radio for 30 seconds --> me cursing due to commercials --> CD --> iTunes on smartphone.

If you like Easy Listening there's a pretty good station in Killeen you can pick it up in North Austin

KNCT-FM
